Reasonable Accommodations
Statement of Philosophy
NCSSM strives to create and maintain an environment in which all students can learn and work to their fullest potential. NCSSM is committed to providing equal access to learning opportunities and reasonable accommodations to qualified students.
Reasonable Accommodations
A reasonable accommodation is a modification or adjustment to a course, program, service, activity or facility that enables a qualified student with a disability to have an equal opportunity to attain the same level of performance or equal benefits and privileges as are available to similarly situated students without disabilities. NCSSM is obligated to provide accommodation only to the known limitations of an otherwise qualified disabled student. To determine reasonable accommodation, Accessibility Services staff may seek information from appropriate faculty/staff regarding essential standards for courses, programs, services, activities, and facilities.
A qualified student with a disability is entitled to appropriate modifications, academic adjustments and auxiliary aids and services necessary to afford the student with an equal opportunity to participate in a school’s program. NCSSM is not required to make modifications, adjustments or provide aids or services that would fundamentally alter its program or impose an undue burden.
Academic adjustments, reasonable modifications, and auxiliary aids and services are determined on an individual basis.
